It is a real pleasure to see such a strong and genuinely reciprocal collaboration between Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Climate Adaptation Services.

In October 2025, Malou ten Have and Simone Kroes from Climate Adaptation Services completed a secondment at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, hosted by Pilar Orero. This exchange laid a strong foundation for shared work at the intersection of climate services, accessibility, and user-centred communication.

Now, this collaboration continues in reverse: Pilar Orero (UAB) is currently undertaking a secondment at Climate Adaptation Services in the Netherlands, further strengthening the partnership through hands-on collaboration and knowledge exchange.

As part of the secondment activities, a meeting and working lunch were organised today, 26 January, at Climate Adaptation Services. The discussions highlighted common research interests, particularly in accessibility services and Plain Language as a key principle for inclusive climate information. The potential use of eye-tracking technology was also explored as a way to better understand user engagement with the wide range of services offered by Climate Adaptation Services.

This exchange is a powerful example of how well-designed secondments can deepen trust, enable methodological innovation, and create lasting impact across research and practice in climate adaptation.
