On January 15th 2025, the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Ghana hosted a seminar titled “Adapting to Extreme Indoor Temperatures.” This event featured insightful discussions led by Rob Wilby and Ben Roberts, representing the ClearClimate team from Loughborough University.
Several distinguished scholars and researchers from UDS participated in the seminar, including:
- Prof. F.K. Abagale
- Prof. G. Kranjac-Berisavljevic
- Mr. Richard Dogbey
- Dr. Richard Agyeman
- Dr. Agbemabiese Yayra
- Dr. John Bernard Tiika
The seminar resulted in a set of actionable goals for ClearClimate, focusing on addressing indoor heat challenges in Ghana. These objectives include:
- A Heat Risk Scoring Tool: A system to quickly assess and score the heat risk of various buildings, which can also serve as a teaching and research tool.
- An Ideal Climate-Smart Home: A model home in Tamale showcasing climate-smart interventions to mitigate extreme indoor heat.
- A Heat Early Warning System for Tolon Hospital: A system designed to provide early warnings about dangerous indoor heat levels, enhancing preparedness and response.
This seminar marks an important step in finding innovative solutions to extreme indoor temperatures, fostering collaboration between international and local experts. The ClearClimate initiative aims to improve indoor conditions and resilience against heat stress in Ghanaian communities.
